Motorola's Talkabout MS350
two-way radios
By Anne Brewer
Cell coverage in the Adirondacks can be spotty at times, so
we decided to review a product that would help groups who
are adventuring together, maintain communication, even
when there is some distance between them. We looked for
a durable, affordable, and practical pair of radios. What we
found was the Motorola MS350. The manufacturer claims it's
the right radio for the extreme outdoors, and we agree. It's
sufficiently waterproof to survive heavy rain and snow, and
if you happen to drop it in the water, it floats. According to
the package information, these radios have a range of 35
miles under optimal conditions. We tested them at much
shorter distances, and they worked fine. A nice additional
feature of the MS350 is its access to NOAA weather
channels, allowing you to plan for weather while out in the
backcountry.
Make sure to check this product out if you are looking
for a quality two-way radio that will allow you to stay in
touch with your group as you ski, hike, climb, and paddle
in the Adirondacks. Challenge yourself to unplug from our
connected world. Leave the cell phones, mobile devices,
text messages and emails at home. If you plan to be within
a few miles of one another, and want the benefit and safety
of two-way communication, simply let a pair of Motorola
MS350's keep you in touch.
1. Be safe with campfires.
2. Never leave a fire unattended.
3. Always make sure a fire is
completely out - coals should
be cool to the touch.
