6 Fall 2014 LOCALadk Who's Who ANNE SCOTT MIEROP is the Founder of LOCALadk Magazine and a long time Adirondack enthusiast, visiting since 1969 and living within the Blue Line for the past 14 years. After a long career in the corporate world of marketing and sales, he escaped. He's an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys mountain biking, paddling, rock climbing, hiking and skiing. He has been an alpine racing coach at NYSEF and National Sports Academy. He's also a pilot and loves to fly. He devotes the majority of his time to LOCALadk Magazine, and can often be seen with his camera and black & tan Dachshund, Gary. SCOTT ANNE BREWER lives in Lake Placid with her husband, Peter Evans, his daughter Ellie, and their dog Juni. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, kayaker, hiker, skier, photographer, and traveler. She has a passion for Central and South America and enjoys visiting places that are off the beaten path. Anne earned a degree in International Business and Communications from SUNY Brockport. In addition to being the Managing Editor for LOCALadk, Anne guides for Adventures in Good Company, and operates her own summer business: Placid Waters Kayaking. JOHN DIGIACOMO lives in Lake Placid with his wife Michele. In 2009, following a series of life altering events, he made a decision to leave his position as a corporate executive and pursue a career as a professional free-lance photographer. This decision has afforded him the opportunity to pursue on a full-time basis his passion for photography, as well as his love of the outdoors. John can usually be found, with camera gear in tow, hiking, paddling, or skiing throughout the Adirondacks. John periodically, leads workshops and tours through his Company, Placid Times Photography (www.PlacidTimesPhotography. com). As an instructor, his goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere affording participants the opportunity to enhance their own individual technical skills, while moving beyond their creative comfort zone. John COLIN LOHER, ace guide, cliff climber extraordinaire, is celebrating his 15th year in the Adirondacks as a NYS Licensed Rock/Ice Guide. Colin currently guides/instructs for : Adirondack Rock and River, Adirondack Mountain Guides, St. Lawrence university, and Middlebury College. He lives in Wilmington, N.Y., with his wife Erica and two young children, Cecy (8) and Henry (6). Colin ANDY JOHNSTONE hails from Saranac Lake and found the four years spent outside the blue line at Syracuse University to be plenty. After graduating with a degree in magazine journalism and environmental geography, he returned to the area and spent two winters working at the Olympic Jumping Complex before moving on to wilderness therapy for at-risk teens. He's an avid snowboarder, hiker, and loves to see the world around him through a camera lens. He now lives with his wife in Keene Valley where he's trying his hand at woodworking. Andy BETHANY GARRETSON graduated from Paul Smith's College with a bachelor's degree in Nature and Culture. Born and raised in Cherry Valley, a small farming community near Cooperstown, NY, Bethany's first taste of the Adirondacks came from fishing trips with her grandparents. She and her husband live in Keene Valley and work as field instructors for wilderness therapy programs. Bethany is an avid hiker and 46er. She loves using the outdoors and mountains to empower individuals. She is currently obtaining a Master's degree in Conservation and Community Development through Future Generation's Graduate School. Through her program, she has studied abroad in India and Namibia. Bethany KIM VERSTRINGHE is a more recent transplant to the Adirondacks. She grew up in the Finger Lakes area of New York where her love for the outdoors began. Pursuing her affinity for the outdoor life, she worked as a river guide, ski patroller and trip leader for various outdoor programs. She used to be a big dog person but has changed her tune since adopting two adorable dachshunds which are great little dogs to explore the adirondacks with. She is a Licensed Acupuncturist with a practice in Lake Placid. Kim
