Fall 2015 LOCALadk Magazine 7 LOCALadk Julie JULIE CANEPA grew up in Plattsburgh, NY. She graduated from Siena College and later attended the Baking & Pastry Arts Program at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. She has lived up and down New York State in a straight line from Plattsburgh to New York City to the Hudson Valley. All roads have led her and her daughter, Ava, back to the North Country and Lake Champlain, where she enjoys running, writing about arts, music and leisure in the Adirondacks and singing songs about making pie with her band, Oh!Betty. BETHANY GARRETSON, an Environmental Studies Instructor at Paul Smith's College, got her first taste of the Adirondacks from fishing trips with her grandparents. She's an avid hiker and believes in the empowering and healing nature of the outdoors. After working four years in the field of wilderness therapy as an instructor, Bethany studied conservation models in India, Namibia, Nepal and the United States as part of her Master's in Conservation and Community Development. Currently, she lives in a yurt on Osgood Pond with her husband. Bethany EVAN WILLIAMS grew up as an Adirondack native and called Wilmington, NY his home. He quickly discovered his interest and passion for outdoor adventures, so today he can often be found exploring the Adirondack Mountains or globally in far off places. Now living in Syracuse, NY, Evan is working on his career in marketing. To keep a close connection to the Adirondack Park, he and his wife, Hilary Williams, launched a website called PureADK.com to share their adventures and provide an insider's perspective. They enjoy skiing, biking, paddling, camping, hiking, and snowshoeing. Evan KATHRYN M. D'IMPERIO (Formerly Van Druff) is a freelance writer and marketing specialist with her own business, Dances with Words. Kate enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and border collie at home in Pennsylvania and in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Kate Tammy & Wynde WYNDE KATE REESE and TAMMY LOEWY met in 2001 while working at The Cliffhanger Cafe in Keene Valley. Sharing a passion for healthy, delicious food and love of the outdoors, they instantly became friends. In the spring of 2004 they started Green Goddess Foods, an organic and locally sourced prepared foods business. In 2007 they purchased the Natural Food Store in Lake Placid and changed the name to Green Goddess Natural Foods. In January 2013 they expanded and re-opened their store in its current location at 2051 Saranac Ave. The store now includes The Scape Cafe, Deli, and Catering Service. Reese holds a BS in Holistic Nutrition and offers nutrition counseling services, while Loewy manages the cafe and catering aspects of the business. The mission of Green Goddess is to provide healthy and delicious organic and local foods to North Country residents and vacationing customers..
