6 Fall 2015 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk TERESA FERREL fell in love with the Adirondacks on her first camping trip at 11 months old and has been back to enjoy the area every summer since. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English and Communications from the College of Saint Rose in Albany while spending summers and breaks living, working, and exploring the outdoors in Old Forge. Teresa now works as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of businesses and publications and travels all over upstate New York to write articles and take photos. She is also the staff writer for Upstate Summer Magazine, an annual travel publication that highlights things to do and places to go around New York State in the summer, and also works as a newspaper copy editor. She loves road trips, reading, camping, paddling, and exploring, and is always on the lookout for the next adventure and the latest story. She can be contacted at tfwriter@jmfpublishing.com. Teresa Eric ERIC ADSIT can't cross a bridge without looking for a river beneath it. While his mailing address is in Lowville, he lives on the rivers, trails, and mountains of the ADK and beyond, taking photos, climbing things, and writing about his experiences. As a whitewater kayaker for nearly half his life, and the founder of the online magazine 'The Dirtbag's Guide to Whitewater," he is now assembling a guidebook on northern NY rivers. Susan SUSAN HOPKINS learned to identify fungi as a member of the New Jersey Mycological Association for the last 35 years. She has attended most of the North Eastern Mycological Forays, the annual, regional convention of amateur mushroomers, and several North American Mycological Forays, the annual, national convention of amateur mushroomers. At these events she has often helped with sorting and identification. After attending the 1993 International Fungi-Fibre Symposium in Scotland she became a "dyer", learning the use of various species of wild fungi to dye wool. Even before becoming a "dyer" her main group of interest to study has been all of the tooth fungi particularly Hydnellum, Phellodon, Sarcodon and Bankera. Susan now lives in the Adirondack mountains of NY learning the local fungi flora and continues to do many lectures, walks, and demonstrations on fungi and mushroom dyeing. JIM SAUSVILLE lives in Saranac Lake with his wife Jennie and their dog Pokomoonshine. Jim came to the Adirondacks for a hiking trip in 1969 and never left. Graduated from Paul Smiths College, and worked in the General Store, the Sawmill and the old logging camp in Onchiota. He has now retired from running his own business, building and repairing small craft, and had a long career of teaching outdoor skills, paddling and free heel skiing for Paul Smiths and Plattsburgh State. Jim can now be found skiing the mountains and paddling the waterways. Here in the Adirondacks, or wherever an adventure may lead him.
