Fall 2016 LOCALadk Magazine 42 LOCALadk Ken Thibado I am LOCALadk How long have you been in Old Forge? How did you end up coming to live there? I grew up in Eagle Bay, and live there now. My studio in Old Forge is in its third year. What makes your work unique? The gallery case features one-of-a-kind jewelry, each piece is unique. But also my client's have individual requests, which means much of my work has no choice but be uniquely tailored. How did you get into the jewelery business? I graduated Maine College of Art as a jewelry designer, and im- mediately entered into the business of jewelry as a goldsmith working in a large store. Over my 18 years in the industry I've become more and more specialized. Are you really open whenever the lights are on? :) Indeed I am. Noonish to nightish are my unofficial hours ;) What is your favorite kind of jewelery to make, what inspires you? I've grown fond of a particular kind of project. I like taking peo- ple's inherited jewelry, and turning it into a new family heirloom. For instance, great grandmother's wedding set, can easily be- come a pendant built entirely from the original settings. It's like giving new life to old jewelry, so it can be enjoyed again. When not creating your art how do you enjoy the Adirondacks? I try to fit in hikes here and there, and I enjoy photographing the scenery we have here. I also get to tour the Adirondack Park as a girls softball coach, for the most popular bar league team in the Adirondacks, The Eagle Bay Tavern's Bay BombERNs. (We're still in search of our first winning season) Ana Greene
