Spring 2017 LOCALadk Magazine 9 LOCALadk Dave DAVE MCGRATH lives in Ottawa, Ontario with his wife Kate. He is an avid amateur photographer and is never without his camera when he is pursuing his passions for camping, kayaking, and x-country skiing. Dave studied computer sciences, and with his entrepreneurial nature, turned his love of skiing into a business by developing SkiCentral.com. Being his own boss allows for more travel so he and Kate visit the Adirondacks often enough to affectionately call it their second home. TOM DWYER is a freelance writer and photographer who resides in Marietta, NY with his wife Lucia. Tom spends most of his time writing about and photographing subjects that interest him in upstate New York. He's one of the owners of Gallery 54 in Skaneateles, NY, and when he's not managing his custom publishing company, Pinnacle Publications, he's either leading nature photography workshops, or camping and photographing in the Adirondack and Finger Lakes regions. Tom PHIL HUBER lives with his wife and four children in Inlet, where he serves as the pastor of Inlet Community Church. Phil enjoys a long walk in the woods, the smell of a wood fire in the air, a strong cup of tea in his mug, and a good book in his hand. He spends his seasons enjoying the Adirondacks – snowshoeing in winter, biking in spring, trail running in summer, and trapping in fall. To satisfy his sweet tooth, Phil taps maple and birch trees for syrup and manages a beehive for honey. Phil WYNDE KATE REESE and TAMMY LOEWY met in 2001 while working at The Cliffhanger Cafe in Keene Valley. Sharing a passion for healthy, delicious food and love of the outdoors, they instantly became friends. In the spring of 2004 they started Green Goddess Foods, an organic and locally sourced prepared foods business. In 2007 they purchased the Natural Food Store in Lake Placid and changed the name to Green Goddess Natural Foods. In January 2013 they expanded and re-opened their store in its current location at 2051 Saranac Ave. The store now includes The Scape Cafe, Deli, and Catering Service. Reese holds a BS in Holistic Nutrition and offers nutrition counseling services, while Loewy manages the cafe and catering aspects of the business. The mission of Green Goddess is to provide healthy and delicious organic and local foods to North Country residents and vacationing customers. Tammy & Wynde Claire CLAIRE BRUCE was born and raised in Clarkston and Novi Michigan. Claire attended Columbia College in Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Cinematography. Claire is a member of the International Collective of Female Cinematographers (ICFC), a collective for established working female cinematographers. She has traveled the world shooting a wide variety of content for companies and sport teams. Claire has also created several short films and commercials. She now lives in Lake Placid where she and boyfriend Colin Prall founded their photography company, Ground Glass Images. Free time is spent hiking and exploring the Adirondacks. Freelance writer NORAH MACHIA and her husband, freelance photographer TONY MACHIA, enjoy hiking and paddling in the Adirondacks and relaxing at the cabin they built in Old Forge. They are both graduates of Syracuse University, and while residing in Watertown, Norah and Tony started coming to the Adirondack Park more than 20 years ago with their children for camping trips at Eighth Lake. They are five-year veterans of the Adirondack Canoe Classic, with Tony and his son Nick doing the paddling, and Norah carrying out the pit crew duties, along with son Kevin and daughter Katie. Norah & Tony Nichole A Lake Placid native, NICHOLE RICHARDSON works remotely for an industry-leading technology bank from her cozy log cabin in the Adirondacks with her mini dachshund Bella by her side. Nichole is fond of the stars, and is a dream weaver, doer, thinker, believer, and tinkerer. Hobbies include finding joy in simple things, singing wildly in the car, photography, home brewing, painting, personal growth, adventuring by way of any means necessary, and crafty beverages. Holds a special place in her heart for the human condition, love, kindness, ingenuity, the mountains, serendipitous moments, fresh air, and exploring.
