Summer 2017 LOCALadk Magazine 9 LOCALadk Tyler TYLER MERRIAM lives in Saranac Lake, but can be found paddling, skiing, hiking, biking, and bushwhacking in the far corners of the park. He has spent his professional time as a manager, guide, and instructor at St. Regis Canoe Outfitters as well as an adjunct professor at North Country Community College. Tyler has completed the winter 46ers, the Adirondack hundred highest, the fire tower peaks, the Cranberry Lake 50, and the Northville Placid Trail. He would like to one day paddle all the public navigable waterways in the Adirondacks. Tyler simply enjoys every moment spent immersed in the Adirondack backcountry, and feels incredibly lucky to live here. KERRY CROWNINGSHIELD is a native of the Adirondacks who enjoys exploring the wildlife and plants in the Park. When not on the trail, she can be found gardening or paddling the rivers and lakes of the Lake Champlain Basin. Kerry is the Outreach Coordinator for the Lake Placid Land Conservancy. Kerry KIM RIELLY is the director of communications for the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST), the destination marketing organization responsible for promoting a huge chunk of the Adirondacks. An almost- lifelong resident of the region, she grew up in Westport and now resides in Moriah with her husband Kevin Boyle and dog Katie. She enjoys paddling, hiking, cycling, motorcycling and skiing, and according to Instagram, taking selfies with her dog. But mostly, she's pleased and proud that it's her job to promote the amazing Adirondack destination experience for the economic benefit of those of us who are fortunate to call the region home. Kim WYNDE KATE REESE and TAMMY LOEWY received the 2016 New York State Small Business Person(s) of the Year award as well as the NYS Business of Excellence award in 2010. They met in 2001 while working at a vegetarian restaurant in Keene Valley, and instantly became friends. Sharing a passion for healthy food and a love of the outdoors, they merged their expertise in 2004 by creating Green Goddess Foods. Pioneers of the Adirondack Farm to Table movement, they were vendors at the first Lake Placid Farmer's Market, where they sold prepared foods using local seasonal ingredients. In 2007 they expanded their business by opening Green Goddess Natural Foods in Lake Placid. In 2013, they expanded again and reopened in their current location at 2051 Saranac Ave. The store includes a café, deli, nutrition counseling, and catering services, and offers Veggiecation classes in local schools. Reese holds a BS in Holistic Nutrition and Loewy manages the café and catering departments. The mission of Green Goddess is to provide healthy and delicious local and organic foods to North Country residents and vacationing customers. Tammy & Wynde Jen JEN KRETSER is the Director of Programs & the Youth Climate Initiative at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY. She is passionate about engaging and empowering young people around the world to act on climate change in their local communities. BRITTANY CHRISTENSON is the Director of AdkAction.org and a passionate advocate for the arts and environment. She is also involved in local agriculture, and is passionate about encouraging ecosystems where crops and wildlife can thrive together. Brittany Phil PHIL HUBER lives with his wife and four children in Inlet, where he serves as the pastor of Inlet Community Church. Phil enjoys a long walk in the woods, the smell of a wood fire in the air, a strong cup of tea in his mug, and a good book in his hand. He spends his seasons enjoying the Adirondacks – snowshoeing in winter, biking in spring, trail running in summer, and trapping in fall. To satisfy his sweet tooth, Phil taps maple and birch trees for syrup and manages a beehive for honey.
