WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN
Wilmington
Looking for a taste of big mountain skiing east of the Mississippi? Whiteface is the answer. The mountain
boasts the greatest vertical drop in the east (3,430 feet), and has more than 86 trails that range from wide
beginner runs to seriously steep plunges.
Don't let that last part intimidate you — Whiteface caters to all skill levels, so much there's a section of the
resort called Bear Den Mountain that's dedicated entirely to newbies. When you're ready to move up, you can
take one of 11 lifts — including the gondola — to test your skills. Speaking of skills, Whiteface also has terrain
parks and 53 acres of glade skiing.
Off trail, you'll find seven options for food, from places to grab a quick bite to eat to the Taste of New York
Café, which specializes in locally sourced items like charcuterie and wine. Two of the lodges, Main Base Lodge
and Bear Den Lodge, received major upgrades this summer, and Porcupine Lodge, on the summit of Lookout
Mountain, was restored and will be a warming hut for boarders and skiers.
