38 Winter 2017 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk TITUS MOUNTAIN FAMILY SKI CENTER Malone As the name implies, Titus Mountain is big on being family friendly. The Titus Teddy Learning Area has a magic carpet lift and private lessons just for kids, and there are even two mascots, Titus Teddy and Shredding Betty, to make things fun. There's also a tubing area, which is the perfect way to get non-skiers out in the snow. When you're ready for more, you'll find 50 trails — the majority are easy to intermediate — carved into three interconnected mountains. Eleven of those trails are lit up at night, too. And at Titus, newbies don't have to worry about getting on the wrong lift because all of them access easy trails. There are also three terrain parks, one of which is considered forever wild and never gets groomed. Amenities are big at Titus: The entire Upper Mountain can be rented for events and there are also ski-in, ski-out chalets. MOUNT PISGAH Saranac Lake This small, village-owned ski area doesn't have the long list of amenities some of its loftier brethren boast, but what it does have it does well. One T-bar lift services 15 acres of skiable terrain, which are perfect for beginners or for people who simply want to relax and enjoy the view — and what a view it is. Whiteface Mountain and the jagged McKenzie Range dominate the scene, giving a true "little hill in the big mountains" feel to the place. There's also a two-lane tubing hill if you'd rather sit than stand. Night skiing at Pisgah is a blast since you're never far from the large, cozy lodge at the bottom. Take a couple of runs, warm up inside, then get back at it. If you're visiting, don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with the locals. They're a friendly bunch who are always happy to offer suggestions on where to go downtown after the lift stops running.
