Winter 2017 LOCALadk Magazine 5 LOCALadk Message From The Editor You might want to keep your coat on for this issue. Winter has arrived; let the snow fly and the adventures be- gin! Creating this issue has been fun, and we are excited to share it with you. The pages are filled with amazing adventures and people who will inspire you through their love of the Adirondacks. As always, we will introduce a few small businesses that embrace the local movement, which is such an important of the Park's economy. The long-anticipated re-opening of the historical Hotel Saranac is nearing, and we are excited to share a sneak peek of some of the carefully recreated features. Also, we share the journey of a men's double luge team as they slide their way to the Olympics. For those who like to downhill ski, we take a look at a few local favorite mountains. This issue's "Epic Journey" takes you to Iceland, where a Keene local explores backcountr y fjord skiing via sail- boat transportation. And, as always, we share a book suggestion and a delicious winter recipe. Fresh food brought to you by local entrepreneurs (and in this issue fresh coffee too!) is always an important part of our magazine, as we are dedicated to supporting and introducing local businesses to our readers. Since the ver y first issue in 2013, our young-writers section, "Up and Comer," has consistently received the most traffic on our digital copy. We love having kids participate and share with us why growing up in the Adirondacks is so cool. This issue we hear from four New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF) athletes from different parts of the park, as well as Montreal.
