Up & Comer: Kids in the Adirondack region learn winter sports at a very early age. For many, this leads to joining organizations like the New York Ski and Education Foundation (NYSEF), which helps kids be- come better athletes through practice and competition. We hear from four members about why they love being part of the pro- gram. A Classic Reborn: We are very excited to be among the first to glimpse what awaits us inside the newly renovated Hotel Saranac. The staff is excited to share what has been carefully restored after a very long and meticulous process. We say with confidence that it is worth the wait. Skiing in the Adirondacks: For those who enjoy downhill skiing and or snowboarding the Adirondacks has you covered. We boast several mountains that all have small town charm, varied terrain, dedicated snowmak- ing and the greatest vertical drop in the east at Whiteface. Serving up small town cultures: Eating healthy helped Cori Dean regain her health and beat Chrone's Disease. Her lifestyle change also inspired her to start a business. Taking advantage of all the great locally-grown pro- duce and foraged plants, she creates delicious and healthy fer- mented food. Exploring adirondack features: There is a lot to learn about a place from its name. Author and hiker Erik Schlimmer shares his passion for hiking in the Adiron- dacks and for exploring all the named features in specific area. This type of hiking allows him to know an area intimately and really appreciate its beauty and remoteness. Sliding to Success: The Winter Olympics are taking place this February and we are excited to cheer on the many athletes that spend time training in Lake Placid.
