64 Spring 2019 LOCALadk Magazine
LOCALadk
This issue's book recommendations include three chil-
dren's book written, and/or illustrated, by Adirondack locals.
Maxwell Eaton III is the "highly tolerated" author and il-
lustrator of several children's books. One of his first books
titled, The Adventure of Max and Pinky: Best Buds, was a fa-
vorite in our house. In fact, we adopted the concept of "ad-
venture Saturday" just like Max and Pinky.
Although we think all of his books are worthy of sharing
with your favorite young people, we especially wanted to
promote The Truth About Bears. This book was published
in 2018, and shares some serious—yet funny—facts about
bears. Have fun teaching young readers about bears while
they laugh and enjoy the many illustrations. Maxwell has a
way of capturing facial expressions that will have you won-
dering if maybe bears really do talk.
Maxwell is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and lives
in Wilmington, New York with his wife and daughter.
