6 Spring 2016 LOCALadk Magazine LOCALadk Eric ERIC ADSIT can't cross a bridge without looking for a river beneath it. While his mailing address is in Lowville, he lives on the rivers, trails, and mountains of the ADK and beyond, taking photos, climbing things, and writing about his experiences. As a whitewater kayaker for nearly half his life, and the founder of the online magazine 'The Dirtbag's Guide to Whitewater," he is now assembling a guidebook on northern NY rivers. Kathy KATHY SCOTT has canoed tributaries of the Churchill River in Saskatchewan, the Green River in Utah, and LaVerendrye Park in Quebec. She initially moved to the Adirondacks to work for the 1980 Winter Olympics. Kathy co-founded and managed St. Regis Canoe Outfitters. In this capacity, she outfitted and guided trips in the Adirondacks. During the winters, she organized and guided two-week canoe trips along the Florida Everglades 100 mile Wilderness Waterway. She raised her two children in the Saranac Lake area, where they participated in many outdoor activities. Kathy now resides and works in coastal Maine, and enjoys returning to the people and the beauty of the Adirondacks. JULIE CANEPA grew up in Plattsburgh, NY. She graduated from Siena College and later attended the Baking & Pastry Arts Program at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. She has lived up and down New York State in a straight line from Plattsburgh to New York City to the Hudson Valley. All roads have led her and her daughter, Ava, back to the North Country and Lake Champlain, where she enjoys running, writing about arts, music and leisure in the Adirondacks and singing songs about making pie with her band, Oh!Betty. Julie Anne ANNE BREWER lives in Lake Placid with her husband, Peter Evans, his daughter Ellie, and their dog Juni. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, kayaker, hiker, skier, photographer, and traveler. She has a passion for Central and South America and enjoys visiting places that are off the beaten path. Anne earned a degree in International Business and Communications from SUNY Brockport. In addition to being the Managing Editor for LOCALadk, Anne guides for Adventures in Good Company, and operates her own summer business: Placid Waters Kayaking. Who's Who MIKE KELSEY played in the woods and got dirty when he was young. Through the years not much has changed. An avid outdoorsman, Mike has climbed the Adirondack Mountains' 46 highest peaks, the 115 highest mountains in the Northeast, and is a NYS licensed caving, paddling and hiking Guide. He is owner of www.AWAYAdventureGuide.com and editor of the Adirondack Mountain Club's Central Trails hiking guidebook. He writes a regular Outdoor Adventure Blog at www.MikeKelseyAdventures.com . Mike DAVE MCCAHILL is an avid fan of any pursuit that involves snow, mountains, mud or singletrack – an outcome he attributes to an upbringing in Lake Placid in the heart of the Adirondack playground. During the snowy months, he serves as Program Director for the New York Ski Educational Foundation's Winter Term program, helping to fuel young folks' passions for snow sports of all kinds. Dave
